Comments Due Sept. 12 for NIST Software Security Document

Comments are due Sept. 12 on the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s draft guidelines for developing secure software and testing for vulnerabilities, the agency said Wednesday.

NIST drafted the guidelines in response to President Donald Trump’s executive order on strengthening cybersecurity. The agency is recommending best practices based on its Secure Software Development Framework.

Alper Kerman, one of the document’s authors at the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence, said: “The draft guidelines we are developing will show how organizations can use commercial, off-the-shelf technologies and AI capabilities and apply zero trust principles and methodologies to create an efficient and secure development environment for producing fast and more reliable software.”
