Gov. Jared Polis (D) announced the AI law will be reconsidered during the state's special session, which starts Aug. 21 (see 2508060055).

However, Titone disagreed with amending the law (SB-205). "There's no justification that changing the AI law will save $5 million.”

“Fiscal analysis by nonpartisan staff [has] shown zero fiscal impact from SB-205, and negative fiscal impact from SB-318,” Titone said. SB-318 is the legislative proposal to update SB-205. “The governor can't just say something without backing it up. This is just a distraction from the real issue of balancing the budget, and all the difficult conversations we need to have.”

Colorado Bankers Association CEO Jenifer Waller said in a statement that the 2024 legislation “laid a strong foundation,” but it’s “clear that updates are needed to ensure our policies remain effective and forward-looking. As we prepare for the upcoming special session, we remain committed to working collaboratively with interested coalitions and stakeholders to craft thoughtful, balanced policies that reflect Colorado’s values and priorities.”
