Bluesky will comply with kids online safety laws in Wyoming and South Dakota, unlike in Mississippi, the social media platform said Wednesday. “Bluesky will remain available to users in these states, and we will not need to restrict the app for everyone.”

Bluesky said last month that it would block access from Mississippi IP addresses rather than comply with its age-verification law, which the U.S. Supreme Court allowed to stand (see 2508220047 and 2508140048).

However, the Wyoming and South Dakota laws are more like the U.K. Online Safety Act, with which Bluesky complies, the platform said. Therefore, for those states, Bluesky will turn on the Kids Web Services (KWS) age-verification service that it uses in the U.K., it said. “Through KWS, Bluesky users in South Dakota and Wyoming can choose from multiple methods to verify their age.”
