Citing China Threat, La. House Passes Genomic Privacy Bill
The Louisiana House voted 79-14 Monday in favor of a bill (HB-125) aimed at protecting an individual's genomic information from certain foreign entities, including China.

“It protects our everything that is about us” from “falling in the hands of our foreign adversaries who have vowed to” use “our DNA information to enhance their own capabilities,” sponsor Rep. Dodie Horton (R) said at the livestreamed House floor session. However, Rep. Matthew Willard (D) repeatedly questioned whether China or other countries are really stealing Americans’ DNA and if it’s happening in Louisiana.
Some House members raised concerns about the genomic privacy bill’s scope and impact at a hearing last week (see 2505050064). The bill goes next to the Senate.
