Better international enforcement cooperation, AI and data free flow with trust (DFFT) are 2025's top priorities for Group of 7 (G7) data protection authorities, several told us. Their October roundtable in Rome focused on those three topics, the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) reported. Representatives from Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the U.K., the U.S., the EDPS and the European Data Protection Board participated.
GDPR
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the European Union’s landmark privacy law governing how organizations collect, process and protect personal data. In effect since 2018 it applies to any entity handling EU residents’ information regardless of where the company is based and imposes strict requirements around consent, transparency, data minimization and user rights. GDPR enforcement has led to billions in fines against global companies setting a high bar for compliance frameworks worldwide and influencing privacy legislation in the U.S. and other regions.
Search Primer
Term list: Separate terms with spaces, not commas or semicolons.
Multi-word term: Place inside quotes to ensure an exact match (e.g. "private right of action").
Acronyms: Use all capital letters to ensure the search is not looking for that letter sequence instead. (e.g., HIPAA).
Required term: If a term must be included in any resulting articles, prefix it with a plus sign (e.g., FTC +rule).
Excluded term: If a term should be excluded from any articles being found, prefix it with a minus sign (e.g., AI -deepfake).
Simplest form: Use the simplest form of a term s (e.g. "lawsuit" instead of "lawsuits").
